Workshop: Gentle and Chair Yoga for the Technology Age

with Sherry Zak Morris, E-RYT and Certified Chair Yoga and Gentle Yoga Teacher

Computers, cell phones and tablets open up our world to new ideas, fun, education, business and community. However, the dark side of technology is the posture-breaking, static-holding and repetitive motions that can wreak havoc in our physical structures. No age is immune to these side effects of computer use. As Yoga Teachers, we undoubtedly will have students in our classes that are suffering from physical issues directly tied to their computer use. Learning effective Gentle and Chair Yoga poses and sequences to bring relief to the computer worker is a must for Yoga Teachers who teach group classes.

Yoga Teachers and Tech Workers Welcome!  Come Learn!

This workshop will address:

  • The Anatomy of the Computer Worker and how our bodies react and adapt when using our technology devices
  • Common postures of deskworkers and the physiological analysis of its affects on the body
  • Movement principles and recommended counter movements that are imperative to keep the body flexible and mobile
  • Gentle and Chair Yoga movements to take into your teaching to empower your students with knowledge and self-care tips.
  • How to find and work with companies in your community to offer Deskworker and/or Corporate Yoga classes

This workshop comes with a detailed Workshop Hand-out of all the poses and modifications we discuss.

Sacroiliac (SI) Joint misalignment creates asymmetry in the body which can be experienced as low back pain, as well as hip, knee and ankle pain from leg length discrepancy that can be caused by SI joint misalignment and muscular compensation. Working with the SI Joint requires slow, symmetrical and methodical movements to increase circulation, stabilize the position of the SI Joint and strengthen the musculature around the joint to keep it secure.

Gentle and Chair Yoga for Arthritis: From Head to Toe

with Sherry Zak Morris, E-RYT and Certified Chair Yoga and Gentle Yoga Teacher

If you teach to the 50+ population, then you will likely encounter Arthritis. Whether Arthritis is in the knees, hands, shoulders or feet, it can be very debilitating and painful for our students. This Workshop will focus primarily on Osteoarthritis with a brief discussion of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Starting from head to toe, Sherry steps through the common issues, symptoms and Yoga pose modifications for students with arthritis.

This workshop is compromised of the following modules:

  • Fundamentals of Arthritis – The focus of this Workshop is primarily on Osteoarthritis and where it occurs in the body. We will address the causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of Osteoarthritis.
  • Exploring Osteoarthritis in the Body – Osteoarthritis occurs frequently in specific joints of the body. As we age, these joints can become compromised and damaged. Understanding how each joint is affected will help us understand the Yoga remedies and movements we can do to keep arthritis at bay and to improve the mobility of the joint.
  • Gentle and Chair Yoga Practice and Poses for Osteoarthritis – Sherry shares a wealth of creative Yoga poses and sequences that she has gathered from many Yoga Teachers, students, bodyworkers and other holistic healing practitioners. Poses are broken down into the key areas of focus for working with arthritis: strengthening, mobility, dexterity, range of motion and alignment.

Low Back Intensive: Lumbar Disc Damage and other Spinal Conditions
with Justine Shelton, Certified Viniyoga Therapist, C-IAYT

Lumbar disc damage is an all too common injury among our Yoga students, as well as degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis and spinal stenosis. It is imperative that we, as Yoga teachers, know how to best serve our students in working with these conditions – helping them heal, delay progression and/or move in the direction of positive change! It is important to know that if a disc is bulging it CAN heal through proper movement to get the disc to retract back into place. If the disc is herniated, the herniation is permanent, however, there is much that can be done to increase the space between the vertebral bodies, limiting nerve compression and helping to get the person out of pain.

Come learn to educate your students on how to stay safe in Yoga asana, as well as life’s movements, to avoid complicating injuries and inflicting harm. Feel free to bring questions, this will be an interactive class.
