How to Give a Well-rounded class in a short time frame?

When you teach a 45 min. class, how do you provide them with a well-rounded, good quality class within that time constraint?

I teach chair yoga classes at the local YMCA.  The studio where we teach is scheduled back to back, and I am allowed only 45 minutes for class.  Frustrating because I feel like I have to hurry and get started, and then before I know it it’s time to close.  They barely receive an abbreviated relaxation.  My question is, when you teach a 45 min. class, how do you provide them with a well-rounded, good quality class within that time constraint?  I always end up feeling like they are getting “less than.”

I do several 30 minute classes, so it is surely doable to give our students a great experience no matter how long the class is. So, you need to re-set your mind and expectations that you CAN give a well rounded class. Think of the top down, full body format. Neck/shoulders… mid back/twists, low back/hips, knees/feet. Do 1-3 poses for each and wah-la.. you have a full body class.

I know we teachers like to share sooo many great movements and info, but that is not always needed in every class. My 60 min classes are completely a different vibe than my 30 min classes, but the students never know the difference. If you feel rushed or agitated .. they will pick up on that. Remember… 30 minutes is an awesome length to give them some great movements to help them feel better. And you have 45!!!!

Hope that helps!
